We are delighted to have a Family Support Worker within our school and below is an introduction to the services that are offered.
Hello, my name is Jodie Carswell and I am the Family Support Advisor at Mesty Croft Academy. I started the beginning of my journey here as a volunteer and have been working at this school for just over 8 years. During my time at the school, I have completed a Foundation Degree in ‘Supporting Children in Primary Education’ and have since progressed onto an Honours Degree in ‘Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Education Studies’
At the beginning of my journey as a voluntary Teaching Assistant, I was a struggling mother of 3 young children (all under 7) and also had a sick husband to look after. I have faced lots of challenging events and at times felt like I had nowhere to turn for advice and support.
I understand the demands and problems that may arise whilst caring and raising a family, some of which can impact negatively and make school and home life a struggle. In my role, I wish to alleviate any stresses that you may be facing no matter how big or small. Sometimes a little help and direction can go a long way in overcoming these difficulties.
Below are just some of the areas that I can help with:
Housing and money worries – (debt)
Money saving – (at home / on the internet)
Training, Education, Benefits
Getting to school on time / good attendance (routine)
Supporting parents and carers to get involved in school life
The range of areas will be vast, however if I cannot help directly, I am able to signpost or refer parents and carers to the appropriate support. Parenting support can be offered on a one-to-one basis and can be personalised to the needs of each family.
If you would like to speak to me, please contact the main reception to arrange a meeting.
