World Book Day
On Friday 1st March 2019, Mesty Croft Academy magically transformed into ‘Hogwarts: A School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’ to celebrate World Book Day 2019. Children and staff were unrecognisable, dressed as characters from the Harry Potter series.
The day had been meticulously planned to ensure that our children had a truly ‘magical’ experience. Each classteacher had taken on the role of a Hogwarts' teacher and the children were taught Potions, Charms, Herbology, Transfiguration and Quidditch in addition to Wand Making and a visit to the Forbidden Forest…
The day officially began when children entered the ‘Great School Hall’ via Platform 9 ¾, whereby each child was ‘sorted’ into a house for which they earned housepoints during the day. A specially themed lunch was served by Mellors and a (highly competitive) staff quiz marked the end of the day. All housepoints were collated and the highly coveted ‘House Cup’ was awarded to Pullman House.
Golden Snitches were bestowed upon the best dressed (including staff) and children took home the results of their hard work. The whole day was set to inspire our children and celebrate a love of reading. And it doesn’t end there… this year’s end of year reward trip for reading is a day at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London: The Making of Harry Potter! It doesn’t get better than that.
