Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

Welcome to Year 3 and to the start of Key stage 2!

This is an excellent opportunity for us to build on all the great things that you did in Key Stage 1. We will be immersing ourselves in a range of compelling texts and exploring a world of new vocabulary, unlocking language. You will be excited to become the best writers and mathematicians you can be.

Each half term we will have a new focus in Science, Art, Music, Geography, History, RE, PHSE and D&T. You'll be broadening your knowledge base and developing a wide variety of concepts and skills.

Thank you for your continued support,

Miss Markham-Randall, Mrs Gallagher, Miss White and the Year 3 Team

Summer 2

This half term we will be exploring Greek Myths. Our main text is:

Week beginning 5th July

In Science, we looked at our onion sets for the last time:

Finally, the one onion bulb pot was the tallest.

In English this week we began writing our adapted myths like Theseus and the Minotaur.

Week beginning 28th June

In English, we have looked at the story of Theseus and the Minotaur in order to create a story river which we will then adapt to write our own stories next week.

Here is one of our adapted story rivers:

We had two GPS lessons this week - inverted commas and different sentence openers. Can you remember what ISPACE stands for?

Which openers can you spot in this group work?

In Maths, we are looking at 3D shapes. We have made them using nets, straws and connex. We then moved on to sorting them.

In Science, we looked at how our onion sets had grown after two weeks. We predicted that the pot with one onion bulb would grow the best. So far it hasn't.

In Outdoor PE this week we looked at throwing in Athletics:

Week beginning 21st June

In Science, we looked at how our onion sets had grown after one week.

We had predicted that the pot with one onion bulb would grow the best. It hasn't so far.

In Computing, we created a storyboard for our stop frame animations using Book Creator.

Freeze frames of the beginning, middle and end

Computing this half term is all about animation. Take a look at our first attempts using ICan animate:

In Maths, we looked at multiplication and division focusing on the 4x table and 8x table. Miss White found some really useful songs to help us remember, take a look at them:

In Science, Class 7 were able to go and explore the microhabitats on the school field in our garden looking for different animals. Unfortunately, Class 8 had to do this virtually due to rain.

Microhabitat exploration

In Computing, we are looking digital music creation. Here we created different beats using the app 'Isle of Tune' on the laptops.

Week beginning 10th May

In History we are looking at English folklore.

Do you know the meaning behind some of our famous Nursery Rhymes such as London's Burning and Humpty Dumpty?

In RE we made a cube showing the different Hindu Gods.

In Geography, we are studying earthquakes.

Home Learning work

Year 3 Home Learning

Any work that children complete can be emailed to their class teachers using the following email addresses:

Miss Markham-Randall:
Mrs Gallagher:

Work that you wish your class teacher to see, may be completed electronically, or simply a photograph. We will provide individual feedback to you and can also answer any questions/queries that you may have. We we ask that you give us up to 24 hours to respond to your work/questions, as we may not immediately be available to you.

This is an unusual time for us all, but we encourage children to continue their learning at home with the support of both yourselves and accessing their class teacher's support remotely.

Thank you for your continued support.

Well done Year 3, you have completed 2 weeks of home learning!  A big thank you to all the children and parents that have emailed in their work, it has been lovely to see and respond to.

Now the Easter holidays are here, we have an ‘Egg-citing’ Easter challenge for you to complete. It is a range of fun activities to do at home with the family. Once you complete the tasks, tick them off your checklist. You can email pictures of your activities at the end of the holidays to our class email.

There isn't a requirement to email in everyday but you need to share the evidence by email at the end of the 2 weeks. There is also a PDF version of the challenge beneath the picture below, if you would like to print it out.

Have fun, stay at home and stay safe!

From the Year 3 Team.
